Bible Verses About Friends

There are many Bible verses about friends. I think God knew that we, as social beings, would need a lot of guidance in this area. Good friends can help us succeed in life and become closer to God. Bad friends can drag us down and lead us away from Him. Good friendships can be very complex relationships and it is sometimes hard to maintain them. Here are some Biblical principles that will help. I have listed 10 verses that will help you identify and keep good friendships while weeding out some of the bad ones.

Well Known Bible Verses About Friends

Friends Backpacking

Proverbs 18:24 "A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." Read my devotional about this verse>>>

Proverbs 17:7 "A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity."

John 15:12-15 "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you."

Proverbs 13:20 "Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm."

Proverbs 16:28 "A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends."

My Favorite Friends Scriptures

Proverbs 22:24-25 "Make no friendship with a man given to anger, nor go with a wrathful man, lest you learn his ways and entangle yourself in a snare."

Proverbs 11:14 "Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety."

Proverbs 27:17 "Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.

1 John 3:7-8 "Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work."

Ephesians 4:29-32 "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."
